Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
I would like to know how my parents can go about adopting my neice. They have had custody of her since she was a week old and she is now 16months old. Her mother has supervised visitation at my mothers discretion and my brother(her father) has joint custody/visitation. He has already told my mother that he would sign the papers because he knows he cannot take care of her because he has custody of his 3 boys from a previous marriage and has a hard time taking care of them. The problem lies with the drug addicted mother. We know she would give us a lot of trouble. She is addicted to prescription meds and has several felony charges against her but she thinks that one day she will get Hannah back. She was taken because the mother tested positive for drugs when she went into labor. My parents don't have alot of money and would like to know where to start and what the costs would be.

Your parents might wish to contact one of the low cost legal services providers
in the area where they currently reside to see whether they might qualify for
an attorney who could at least advise (if not substantively assist them) with this adoption matter at little or no cost to them.
