Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Paternity

Currently i reside in VA. She lives in GA. When I lived in GA, my ex-girl friend told me she was pregnent. I tried to do the responsible thing and suggested marriage the assumed responsibility assuming that the relationship was monogamous, and she freaked out. To cut to the chase. I found out she had sexual relations with many other men while we were seeing each other and more importantly around the time of the baby was concieved. We had many disagreements and she told me that she never wanted to see me again and I haven't seen her since. I was in the service at the time and left to serve my country else where. Now six years later I get a phone call from her asking me if I want be a part of this little girls life and submit to a paternity test. Prior to this phone call I had searched for the truth for years with no success than started over. I live in a different state and I just want to do the right thing for my Family of 3 and the little girl. I know that I cannot trust her and she is probably trying to get something out of me please advise. Does she have the right to force a paternity test, or do I have the right to do so. What can be done to protect myself from this crazy person.

Re: Paternity

Since the child is a resident of Georgia, you would need to petition the appropriate court in Georgia, alleging the facts necessary for the court to order the paternity test(which you would likely have to pay for.)

The mother could also do the same but you would likely have to appear voiluntarily before the Georgia court,

as she would otherwise very likely have difficulty in securing proper enforceable service of notice of the paternity action upon you in Virginia.
