What is the penalty for committing perjury in Virginia ?

The penalty for perjury in the Commonwealth(as in most jurisdictions) will normally depend upon what is being lied about. Such a lie under oath about a matter involving a felony could result in the perjurer being charged with a felony for the false swearing. However, if the subject matter of the false swearing

was itself a misdemeanor, the penalty for the perjurious testimony in this instance would likely be a misdemeanor.
