Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
phone harassment
My sister is receiving disturbing calls from her daughters father, her ex, almost on a daily basis. He threatens to have her arrested and calls he ever name you could think of. He currently has custody of thier daughter because she choose to move away and he fought her in court and won. She has recently moved back to our home town to fight the courts ruling. He is now comming by her place of work stopping in the lot to see if she is there. He has also been seen by her pulling out of the road she lives on when he lives close to 60 miles away from her house. I know from experience about this mans temper and violent language because we had words with one another a few years ago. I am tring to help her find out what to do and how to do it to stop this harassment. She thinks the police will not help her and her lawyer has been of no help since day one. Please advise us of some steps to take to get this to stop.

Re: phone harassment
It would seem that this man's conduct and behaviour needs to be closely evaluated for possible violation of Virginia's criminal stalking laws, and, apparently, consideration should also be given to the possibilty that your sister should have a civil protection order (CPO)in place in order to further deter him, if necessary.
