Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I am in process of a Divorce and my ex has blocked all funds. I have been a stay at home mom for 16 years I could not afford a attorney so I went and filed a no contest divorce by myself at the courthouse and had him served. I just received a notice that he is serving me and he will be the plantiff so the question is Does the person who served first or how is it decided who is plantiff and defendant.

Normally, the party who files first is usually the plaintiff.
