Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I'm in the process of filing for divorce in Virginia (my wife and the marital residence is in Virginia). I moved to another state and will be settling there permanently.

On the documents that my lawyer is submitting to the court, it says specifically that I currently reside in this other state. Can I go ahead and change my state of residence (i.e. drivers license, vehicle registration, etc.) to my new state, or will that have any negative implications on my divorce filing? T hank you.

Your divorce filing should not be affected by your move; Virginia is the proper jurisdiction to hear the matter, being the residence of your wife and the last place you lived together as husband and wife.

This almost certainly what your attorney told you.
