Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Property in one spouse's name, after marriage

My husband is self-employed, in addition to having another job that pays 10,000 a year. I also have the same job that pays that amount. We use that job for insurance purposes and to pay extra taxes so that we don't have to file quarterly.

We have been married 25 years. I've noticed that when he buys a piece of property, he puts it only in his name, but the lawyers make us both sign the document. Any vehicle, he gets, he puts in his name.

Two years ago, he said that he wanted a divorce, but retracted it. He put a lot of back breaking work in the business. I raised the two children and asnwered phone for the business, gave him his messages. I was to use the money I earned from my job (after what was taken out extra for taxes and a flex spending plan) (about 600.00 a month) for any gift that we had to buy, a car for myself, clothes for the family and anything that was left over I could use for myself, for fun.

How will this property be divided if we divorce? Will there be enough for me to live my retirement? This property that he is buying while we are still together, but putting into his name, how will it be divided and should I insist that anything he purchases, in the future, be put in both of our names?

Warm regards

Yes, you will have marital claims against all

property jointly acquired with your husband during the course of the marriage(irrespective of whether you're listed as a title owner), but should insist that any such major property jointly acquired be titled in both of your names.
