Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Protective Order?

Is it possible to file a protective order on someone in a different state. Say for instance I live in Virginia can I have a protective order issued for someone that lives in Florida? Also how long after someone request one does it take for the other person to get it? Like how long is the usual process. I have a feeling that my ex is going to request one in retaliation of me taking them to court to modify our current custody order.

Re: Protective Order?

No, civil protection orders would not be issued by courts against persons who reside in different states and who would not be subject to the personal jurisdiction of these courts.
