Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

rehear/reopen case

I was denied a foid (gun card) due to a conviction that I was told that would be dismissed if I stayed out of trouble for two years, in which I did. Now I am applying for a job with the Chicago police and now I cant because of a conviction of domestic assault on family member. In the state of virginia the judgement was entered Feb/2007 what are my options at this point? Is there anything I can do?

No, I regret to report that you had better forget about that job with the Chicago Police Department. (With that sort of conviction on your record, under federal law, you can't even own or possess a firearm, let alone work for a police department in a job which would require that you carry one.)

See 18 U.S.C 922(g)(9):

"It shall be unlawful for any person who has been convicted in any court of a crime of domestic violence, to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce or possess ... any firearm or ammunition, or to receive any firearm or ammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce."
