Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
Relinquish Custody
My friends have an adopted child that has exhibited documented mental health issues from a young age. He is now a teenager, and his erratic behavior presents a physical danger to all in the home. (He has threatened a parent with a weapon twice.) After countless evaluations from psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and school officials, and a stint in a long-term facility (paid for by the parents), assistance from local agencies is virtually non-existent. Because of growing safety concerns, the parents are reluctantly considering giving up custody of the child. Is this possible in VA, and if so, how do they start the process?

Very unlikely at this point.
