Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

How far do my responsibilities go with my nephew?

We took custody of my nephew when there was no one else who could raise him. His parents are diseased. He is 16 now and has runaway from home. We feel we can no longer raise him. No other family can take him. I do not know what to do with him if he returns home. If he breaks a law are we required by law to hire an attorney to defend him?

You should probably contact your local department of social services office to see whether your nephew might qualify for the CHINS (Child In Need of Services)or some other similar program which may be able to provide the structure and discipline to your nephew's life which is now apparently lacking.
