Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Retirement pension

Due to the impending closing of the Ford Motor Plant in Norfolk, my ex-husband will be losing his job , but will receive a $125,000 severance package. The divorce decree was suppose to stipulate that I am to receive 25% of his retirement but the original decree has a typo in it, and I have been informed that I will need to go back to court to have this mistake corrected. Do I need to be represented by an attorney, or can I just represent my case and explain my circumstances? Thank you for your time and advice.

Re: Retirement pension

You would be well advised to discuss this with your attorney. (He or she will be familiar with the precise langusage of the decree with respect to your share of your husband's retirement and therefore will be in the best position to advise you accordingly.)
