Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I am seeking legal advice on behalf of a seventeen year old. He is attempting to gain emancipation. His parents are not abusive or negligent, but there are psychological problems exacerbated by his living in the house. He has sought leave from the home with parental consent, and has been denied. He has several supporting adults, including his licensed therapist, who believe that he could handle independent living, and that it is in his best interest. Is emancipation possible in VA without legal consent? If it is, what steps should he take? If not, are there any other options for him?

For someone age 17 seeking emancipation through the court under the

facts described makes little sense (in my estimate) when the fast spinning globe will make the matter "moot", so to speak, in a few short months.
