Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Separation - finances

My husband and I are separating, he has asked to go through a mediator. However, he wants me to pay half of two large credit cards that he claims he purchased all of our furniture on and medical bills. I do not have access to the accounts and my name is not on them. We have one minor child that he has not seen in over a month by his own choice. The amount of support calculated is less then what he is asking for in bills. Am I obligated to pay these ? I make less then he does and can not make a life for me and our son if he insists on taking over half of my income.

Re: Separation - finances

Just because you may be going through a mediator does not mean that you necessarily need to accept half of the responsibility for these bills.

Just say no.

I agree. You should not agree to pay for his debts and he should prove what the accounts were used for. He does not get 1/2 your income either.
