Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

seperation/divorce

me and my wife seperated 01/2007 upon an agreement. she purchased a house in 09/1999, but we got married in 05/2002. my name has nver been on the contract in the begining, nor when the house was refinianced. my question is what obligations do i have towards the mortgage of the house. also i purchased some vehicles after we were married. do she have any rights to them even though she has her own vehicle.

Re: seperation/divorce

If your name is not on the house note(mortgage), you have no obligations with respect to the note.(It's possible, however, even if you're not on the note or the deed, that if you contributed to an increase in the equity in the property, that you might have a claim to part of the value of this property as marital property.)

Assuming that you don't die without a will before you finally divorce from this particular wife, and that she is not listed on any of the vehicle titles as a joint owner nor assisted with their purchase or maintenance/ improvement, then she would not have any claim to your vehicles as marital property.
