sole custody

i have joint custody of my garndchild, can my son petition the court to give me sole custody even if the mother disagrees; the father feels that it's in the childs best interest. i share legal joint custody with my son and his wife whom are now seperated

No your son cannot petition the court to award you sole custody of your grandchild; rather you must file such a petition (and likely would need an attorney if the mother would contest it.)
