Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My son is 17-years-old. His father has been paying child support for the last 5 years. My son wants to start spending every other week with his father. Is his father still required to continue to pay child support? It states in the divorce decree that we have joint custody, but he is required to pay 700 dollars until the child is 18-years-old.
