Spanking
Is it illegal for a parent to spank her children?
If there is a bruise, is that illegal?
My roommate, requesting my help to discipline, may ask me to spank her children, could I be in legal trouble?
If she gave me written permission?

It is not illegal in the Commonwealth of Virginia for parents to discipline their children by spanking them(in a reasonable manner).
It would be my advice that as a general rule folks should not involve themselves in spanking other people's children which might indeed lead to legal problems.
Minor children do not have the sole authority to decide the parent that
they may want to live with in 50/50 shared custody situations, but a court of proper jurisidction will, of course, usually accord appropriate consideration to their preferences, depending,upon their ages and general maturity, among other factors.
