Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Split Custody and Child Support

Under Virginia law, if custody of the kids is split between the parents, i.e., 2 with mom and 1 with dad, is the child support paid by dad reduced since he has custody of one of the children? Will she have to pay child support to him for the child in his custody?

Re: Split Custody and Child Support

Both of you are responsible to pay child support for all three of the children regardless of where they live. VA has child support guidelines which add both your incomes together to get a ratio of each individuals income to the combined income. In other words, if you make 20,000 and she makes 5,000, you contribute 80% of the combined income. You then must calculate the expenses of each child. You would then be responsible for 80% of the child's expenses.
