Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

spousal support calculation

I have several us savings bonds that will mature this year($30,000)after holding them for 30 years.I have been married for 4 years. Will the interest accumulated for the past 30 years be counted as income in my spousal support calculation or be excluded as a one time event?

Re: spousal support calculation

There is no specific formula codified in Virginia law of which I'm aware to determine an appropriate amount of spousal support(unlike child support which does have a required formula).

Consequently, it would seem that you or your counsel should be arguing that this particular financial windfall which you expect to reap this year should be treated as a one time event and excluded from all calculations having to do with whatever your spousal support obligation may eventually turn out to be.
