Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
Help me Please, someone
I am on SSI disability; my income is limited. I finally came up with money. Went to hire an attorney he turned out to be the guardian ad litem. He referred me to another attorney. I hired this attorney; he has been suspended several times in the past 15 yrs. I asked guardian ad litem why he referred him, he stated he is a good attorney, is friends with him, and has known him for 20+yrs. My attorney has recently been suspended again. We went to court Tues. Court was seen behind close doors, attorneys and judge only. I did not hear what was said. Court proceeded later with me in the courtroom. A psychologist was heard she stated my daughter and I needed more time together. Their psychologist actually sounded as if she was testifying for me. I was not heard at all. Nor was the parental capacity assessment conducted by a forensic psychologist. This assessment was also in my favor. My attorney babbled his argument and was ineffective. Ruling went against me I told my attorney to file an appeal. I don't believe he did. What is my recourse? I have no money for another attorney. Can I file an appeal myself?

Yes, assuming this matter was ruled on in the J&DRDC court, you have 10 days from the date of the adverse decision to note your appeal and you should waste no time in doing so.
Then your more difficult task will be to find an attorney who can competently represent your side of matters in the de novo trial before the circuit court.
