Many attorneys and judges believe that a divorce related judgment (a money judgment) can be enforced by a "show cause" motion for contempt of court. I believe that is not correct, although I am in the minority on that.

If by "judgment' you mean an order to pay money, this is a money judgment (debt) like any other. It can be enforced by garnishing a bank account or by garnishing a person's salary or wages from an employer. There are procedures for post-judgment collection. They are a bit confusing. A person can do them without an attorney but it isn't easy.

The most important thing is to try to find out what bank or banks the person uses and/or where they work.

Then the procedures require a lot paperwork that has to be filled out and processed carefully.

If I can help as an attorney, please let me know. I am in Woodbridge and I practice in Loudoun County often. I used to live in Ashburn on the North (river) side.
