Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My soon to be ex told me that his lawyer wants to know my city and state of birth. Why does his lawyer need this information in order to file for divorce. I do not feel comfortable releasing that information. Are they trying to pull up history on me or something?

The Virginia Division of Vital Statistics requires information be given them on each of the parties to a divorce action. That information includes date and place of birth, as well as, for example, level of education (1through 12 for lower school, 1 through 5 or 5+ for college.)
