Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Transferring my file from one firm to another

Are there important matters that I should consider in having my file transfered from one firm to another? Especially if I am considering suing my first attorney, is it important that my file be transferred directly between the firms, without my intervention? Is it normal for a firm to charge for transferring and copying my file?

Thank you.

Rather than transferring the file directly from one firm to another, you should request that ALL of the file contents (or genuine copies thereof) be returned to you who can then deliver it to your new counsel.

And, yes, charges to the client for copying a file generally accompany that process.
