Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Visitation Interference

I have sole custody of a 4 1/2 yr old. I refused to let my ex-husband take my child on his visitation without a car seat (offered mine but was refused). I have never refused a visitation before. What is the basic guidelines for a custodial parent to follow when it comes to visitation? Usually I bend over backwards to make sure he sees the child. I just want to know when I'm overstepping my bounds.

Re: Visitation Interference

I think you're on solid grounds. After all, it's the law, and the law is designed to protect your child. You have a right to require the child's father to abide by a law that protects the child. Your offer to let him use your car seat takes all the sting out of any objection he might make to your reasonable request.
