Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Waiting on his divorce...

I've been talking to a man who is going through a ''divorce''. He is currently seperated from his wife and is going to see his lawyer this Friday to sign divorce papers. I read your answer to another question about divorce papers...is there another term or something more that needs to be done before a divorce can be finalized? They have been to court before as they have a young child. I believe that it was about custody, child support and other aspects of the seperation. Please let me know if these divorce papers on Friday could be the end, or if there will be more. I know his wife wants a divorce and now that they have been seperated for a year or better he's moving on with it. Is there anything else he should be doing? I have only spoken to him a few times as I understand that this could turn into a terrible situation and I wouldn't want to be the cause, especially with a child in the picture. Your advice would be much, much appreciated. Thank you.
