Can a wife block her husband from returning to the house if the house is in his name? Our son is in the military and will be returning home next week; his wife has told him she will have legal paperwork to that effect.

Yes, such could be possible if it's a restraining or other similar order issued by a court of proper jurisidiction, i.e., with the authority to do so.
