Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I have been with my wife since her youngest son was 12 months old he has only known me as his father and there is no father listed on his birth certificate.My wife says she doesn't know who the father was it wasa one night stand and he was passing through town on business.She got pregnant never heard from him again and really isn't sure were he is or he really is from.Please don't judge ,she had just gone through a divorce and was lonely and made a mistake,my question is what do I have to do to make him legally my son ? He has always called me dad and thinks that I am his dad so what can I do?

If your wife's son was born before you married her and you are not the biological father, then you could legally adopt the boy through what's termed a stepparent adoption. A local attorney who handles adoption matters should be able to further explain it to you during an office consultation.
