Ex wifes entitlements for my life insurance

I am currently in the Army getting ready to deploy to IRAQ and am setting up my life insurance policy and dont remember if ther is anything in my divorce papers about death gratuity for her or my son, I dont want to see my wife and son now get the shaft does she have any way to these funds if I die? if so how can my wife fight it

Under Virginia law, the designation of your wife as beneficiary of an insurance policy is automatically voided by the divorce. However, if you redisignate her after the divorce is final, it will be honored.

Fortunately, private life inusrance policies are not marital property in Virginia and you can name whoever you like as beneficiary. They act outside of the will so there would be nothing to contest. It is a simple contract between you and the insurance company.
