I would go back to your attorney and ask specifically what to expect. In general terms, the court will look at the totality of circumstances and the court will consider what is in the interest of your child. there are many factors to be considered: length of stay with the father and level of confidence that the child has with the father will definitely taken into consideration... but the court will also inquire as to why all of a sudden the father wants custody: is the mother not fit? what are his allegations? Whatever he claims he will need to prove. Again, go back to your attorney and ask for detailed information as to what to expect based on the father's petition for custody.
