Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
I was just wondering what I should do. Me and my husband got into a fight. I called the cops but i ended up getting arrested. i got charged with assault and him nothing. The cops failed to mention that he hit me or broke our new flat screen. basically all the report says is that i stated that i hit him. Im scared because i dont know what is going to happen. i dont know if this will affect me getting a job since im about to graduate. Also if me and him decided to divorce will this effect me getting custody of our daughter. This is my first offense.

Yes, if you're convicted of domestic violence battery, it could later affect
your ability to secure gainful employment. And, no, it should likely
have no real effect on your custodial rights to your child (in my opinion).
I would, however, (if I were you) recommend that you make every effort to hire a competent criminal defense counsel to defend you on the criminal domestic violence charge in order to minimize the possible adverse
consequences that could arise out of this incident.
