Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia
Yesterday, I left a 3 year old at his house alone, asleep with all the doors locked. I was only leaving to go 15 miles down the street to take friends home who had helped me find my cell phone. My car broke down along the way and a Stafford County Sheriff had called a tow truck. I tried to find a ride back to the residence for about and hour and realized what time had past. I then called the police and turned myself in. I was arrested for child neglect and reckless disregard for life. I was not marandized. I am 18 and was charged as a juvenile. I did not intend to leave the child for more than 25 to 30 minutes and I took all precautionary steps in order to make sure the child and the house was secured. The Virginia Crime Code is FAM-3808-F6. I need to know how to advance with this case and what I need to do to make sure that I get into as little trouble as possible. I am currently enrolled at Randolph College and am trying to transfer to Randolph Macon. None of my actions displayed my intentions. I was trying to do the right thing by taking the people away from the house, and my car, which I was told was fixed, was unreliable. What steps do I take?

"To make sure that (you) get into as little trouble as possible" arising out
of this incident, you will need to engage the services of an attorney
to represent you who is experienced and knowledgeable in defending against charges of child abuse and neglect.
Don't try to handle it on your own as you are almost certain to
regret it.
I agree with prior attorney comment. You need an attorney for this case. There is not quick answer. Felonies are very serious and cannot be expunged in Virginia. The custody of child is at stake. Take out a loan or advance if required to hire attorney This type of case is definitely worth it. Ask Attorney Sheryl Shane. www.sherylshanelaw.com.
