Legal Question in Medical Leave in Virginia

Couting time against me for doctor's appointment

I had a serios health condition that required surgury. I was off work for 7 weeks. I informed the company when I was going to have surgury and had the doctor's office fill out the necessary paperwork. Before I had surgury I was off for one day because of the medication and missed about 1and a half hours to go to the doctor to have my condition checked After going back to work I had my absentee report given to me and they counted this time against me. I had to have another paper filled out for the one day and the couple hours and was told by the assistant it was covered. I asked for a copy of the paperwork for the day and couple hours and have not received it. I t has been 3 weeks The time is still counted against me and my supervisor told me they do not have to excuse the time I take off to go to the doctor to have my condition checked. I have to go for my final exam next week . I need to know if followup appointments for a serious health condition is covered. Thanks

The Family Medical Leave Act really just preserves your job when you must take off due to a medical condition (subject to eligibility details). The Act does not prevent an employer from charging your time to sick leave.
