Family Medical Leave Guidelines

I have a coworker whose daughter was murdered she has been taking a day off here and there and putting FMLA on her time sheets, my question is does FMLA have to be taken in a consecutive manner?

Intermittent (as opposed to consecutive)leave is allowed for under FMLA, provided that the employee has met the necessary criteria, which would normally include providing the employer with a letter from the employee's physician attesting to the need for such leave.
