Legal Question in Medical Leave in Virginia

Fmla

I worked as a contractor for Kadix Systems in Arlington VA. September 28, 2007 the contract I was working on ended. I was told by my employer that my health insurance would end on that day as well. I'm 7 months pregnant and before the contract ended I was put on bed rest. Now here I I'm a high risk patient with no health insurance. My question: is this legal? Is this legal for them to just terminate my insurance 2 days after the contract ended?

Re: Fmla

You may have a right to extended health care coverage under COBRA and should make inquiry to your former employer to determine whether this in fact is the case and, if so, request the paperswork to get it started.

As far as terminating the health insurance which you previously had, if it was conditioned upon your continued employment with the company, once your employment was terminated, the responsibilty for the company to continue providing you with health insurance also likely ended.
