Legal Question in Medical Leave in Virginia

Maternity Leave and Short Term Disability

Hi- I live and work in VA and will join a small company, less than 20. I have not been offered disability insurance so assume they do not have it. What options do I have? Is the employer supposed to give the time off, but I would have to pay the STD insurance? What esle should I ask or look for?

Thanks

Yes, it could work that way, in response to your first question(but why assume anything and not ask for clarification?)

You might also inquire as to whether the company would permit you to take leave without pay(if you have no or insufficient annual/sick leave accrued)at the time when you'll need to take the materity leave since as an employer of fewer than 50 persons, this employer would not be required to be covered under FMLA which would allow for up to 12 weeks of such leave without pay in any given calendar year.
