Legal Question in Medical Leave in Virginia

Pregnancy at work

I have given my employer three notices from my doctor requiring that I be placed on light duty. My employers response has been that they do not have any light duty available at this time, and that they are too short handed to give me any help and that if I have to work all day at a slower pace to get my job done then thats what I will have to do to keep my job. Some days more often than not I am lifting 80 pounds or more over and over for longer than 9 hours a day putting me and my unborn child at risk for complications. Is my employer allowed to treat me like this, dont they have to peovide me with light duty? Anytime I complain or ask for help they threaten my job. what can I do about this?

Re: Pregnancy at work

Unless you're working under the protection of a contract or collective bargaining type of agreement, in an employment at will jurisdiction such as the Commonwealth of Virginia, you can be fired at any time by your employer for almost any reason that doesn't violate federal anti-discrimination laws.
