Legal Question in Medical Leave in Virginia
Should I retain legal counsel? clarifying
Here is a summation: I am a teacher who has taken FMLA this year. I was approved by the school board to have FMLA. One of my assistant principals verbally harrassed me about it, even after I told her I was covered.
My school district does not have any posters (or anywhere) for FMLA. When I asked my GEA rep. he misinformed me and told me the school does NOT have to comply since he further misinformed me public schools are NOT required to follow that law. Now, I feel harrassed and betrayed. My health has suffered from this ( problems with depression and my diabetes). I have a meeting with my superintendent and the human res. rep. on Monday. My assistant principal, the one who harrassed me about FMLA will be there also. When I asked if I could have a lawyer here, they informed me it was the superint. who could decide on that per HIS discretion. I feel it will be 3 against one. I am taking a tape recorder and will not pull that out unless necessary, but I do plan to take detailed notes at the meeting. I still feel like I will be outnumbered. Should I retain a lawyer at this point or just attend the meeting and go from there?
To clarify...my super. denied request to bring a lawyer, that he prefers to resolve without attorney.

"Attend the meeting (without a lawyer)
and go from there".
