Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

aware of criminal behavior

my sister stole nearly 200k from my father. She accomplished this primarily by forging his signature on a home equity loan and by activating new credit cards in his name. ''Dad'' has chosen not to press charges on his ''little girl''. Can I proceed with any legal charges on my own? She has admitted to the deed and states she will take responsibility for some of it but is currently unemployed (typical) and a consummate liar. It is highly unlikely she will pay a cent back to the credit card companies or the bank. By the way she is 37 years old and has previously embezzled thousands from a bank where is was employed. Is it worth it to hire a lawyer even though we are not the direct victims?

Re: aware of criminal behavior

Unless your father(the victim) wishes that civil and/or criminal prosecution ensue against your sister for her criminal acts, it will not happen merely because some other party such as yourself thinks that it should.
