Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Our daughters friend drove her car (registered to me) to listen for a possible problem/noise coming from the newly installed brakes. This person (24 years old) drove the car (without her in it) down a mud path intended for ATV's. He sunk it above the bumpers in a mud pit. He admitted fault and agreed to pay for damages. The engine was "blown-up". The cost to repair was more than the $2,500. We only asked for $1500 and he was appreciative of that price and agreed to pay. Is there a legal document that can enforce this agreement?

The oral contract is enforceable; you may, nevertheless, want to reduce it to a writing and have it signed by the parties to bolster its provability should this young man later lose enthusiasm for following through on his oral promises.

Yes, get it in writing, or just pick up the cash or a good check while everyone is feeling so agreeable and reasonable.
