Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

dog bite

i went away for one night in december an my girlfriend was watching the house for me. she let my dogs out without a leash,the one dog killed my neighbors dog.From what i was told,the neighbors dog wasn't on a leash either...now i'm being sued for over 3000.00!!! am i responsible for all of the vet bill or is my friend also responsible?

If a judgment is entered against you for the entire amount of your neighbor's loss, you may be able to bring suit against your friend for her alleged negligence in allowing your obviously ferocious animal outside without a leash. (Of course, if the court finds that the neighbor was contributorily negligent in this unhappy event by not also having his

or her animal properly leashed, such a finding could bar the owner of the dead dog from recovering anything from you.)
