Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia
My friend recieved a check from her college for $2000 from the university she was attending in August. She deposited the check thinking it was a scholarship and used the money to pay for college. Now the college, which she is no longer is attending wants the money back because they mistakenly sent it to her. She started attending another school when in August. She got the check when she was still attending the one that gave her the money. She does not have the money. My question is does she have to give them the money back?

Yes, very likely so if the money was given to her in error (in my opinion).
