Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia
Gift not sent as requested
13-14 years ago I worked for an executive who had me do many of his personal errands. One time he asked that I have a wedding gift sent to a retired executive's daughter. It's been so many years ago that I don't remember exactly what happened. I think the mailroom was supposed to come by my desk and pick it up, or I may have been negligent and forgot about it. At any rate the gift was never sent. I was terrified at the boss'wrath and never told him that it wasn't delivered. I hadn't thought about this for years. Had a dream about it, and it's bugged me since. I gave the gift away (some 13 years ago,but not to the proper recipient). I was very young and foolish then, but scared that he would fire me, and bring down his wrath upon me! Now I want to apologize to him and make restitution for the undelivered gift. I've no idea the cost of this gift-probably not cheap, as he was well-off. Never thought about this being a criminal offense (my ignorance), but it occurred to me that I gave away something that did not belong to me. I even worried that he didn't go further up the corporate ladder because this girl didn't get a gift. I know, thinking the worst. Does he have any legal action against me? How can I clear this up?

Re: Gift not sent as requested
So many years have passed that the civil and criminal statutes of limitation have, in all probability, long since expired. What, if anything, you choose to do (or not do) with regard to your nagging conscience may be a moral dilemma, but it is not a legal problem.
