Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia
ok so my girlfriends mom signed the loan to the car as the buyer and as the registered owner. i have been making every payment for that car since she signed for it. now i am the only that drives that car. i had put some money into this car around $8,000 into performance parts. i didnt pay the car note for about 3months straight and it went to collection. we agreed that the car payment would be knocked down due to l lost my job and couldnt afford the actuall car payment.. so we agreed to a new car payment which is cheaper...i been paying on it and my girlfriends mom came with the cops and for me to hand over the keys...cops said i couldnt get anything out of the car except my work tools...they said i couldnt get my sounds system nor all of the engine parts...my question is is there anyway that i can get my parts or my money back from her? or am i jus SOL? like i have all the reciepts for every part i put on that car and labor reciepts....in virginia i cant take her to civil court because its more the $5,000 so im guessing i have to go through circuit court...i just dont want to hear that i cant either get my parts back nor my money...
thanks for taking you time reading this please reply back asap thanks

Try suing her in small claims court for $5K which, obviously, is considerably
better than $0K. Be prepared, however, with receipts and whatever other
records that you may have to prove that you in fact made the expenditures
on this vehicle which you claim.
