Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Harassing neighbor thinks he has won and continues his behavior

I have been harassed by my 22-year old next door neighbor (shared-wall townhouse community) for over a year, and recently went to criminal court as a key witness after filing a vehicle tampering case against him. The court ruled my neighbor not guilty since my evidence could not prove without any doubt that he was involved in tampering with my vehicle. However, the judge gave him a very stern warning about his behavior and conduct.

Within an hour of leaving court, I received a text message from the defendant. Also, he was outside my house with his friends last night taunting me. I am very annoyed that he thinks that he was ''won'' despite the stern warning from the judge. Also, I fear that he will now increase his level of harassment and threats against my partner and me.

In addition to the vehicle tampering, he has done the following:

- Rubbed feces on my car door handle

- Ignited fireworks on my front doorstep

- Prank calls

- Followed and tailgated my vehicle when driving home

- Directly taunt and threaten me in my community parking lot

- Placed trash in my mailbox and on my rear deck

Is there anything else that I can do? Is it possible to pursue a civil case or restraining order against him?

If it were me, I'd hire an attorney to send a letter to him to cease and desist his harassment and then I would consider filing a suit against him, and ask for an injunction and money damages. Document everything in a diary with dates, etc. Don't give up. No one should put up with this kind of crap.
