Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia
harassment after denied auto claim
In May, I was backing out of a parking space at the same time a man was backing out of his & when I noticed his vehicle too close to mine. I thought we would both be responsible for own vehicles, he said it was no big deal, but we exchanged numbers anyway (he had some scraped paint on the opposite side of the vehicle from where I was coming from & with the low trailer he had, I don't think my vehicle could have collided with his where he claims there is damage, but pole on his trailer caused damage to my bumper) but next day called me to file claim. My insurance denied the claim, stating no one was at fault. He began calling me, I told him to call insur. co.; they called him and told him not to call me, he continued calling me about hiding behind my big insurance co, and I'll be very sorry, etc. He called & left message for me to call him with my address, I called insur. co, they told him to send anything to them; it would be forwarded to me, he called again yesterday left message he now had my address, knows where I live, and I need to call him back to confirm address. I called insur. co, they are calling him back. Question: I am afraid this man is unstable. What can I do to get him to stop calling and harassing me?

Re: harassment after denied auto claim
Notify him that unless he ceases his harassing behaviour, you will first have to report him to the local telephone company and then, if necessary, to local law enforcement authorities.
