Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

My husband regularly buys items off of Craig's list and he recently inquired about a trailer (to be attached to the back of a vehicle to tow items) that he was interested in. When he contacted the gentleman selling the trailer, he said someone had purchased it but that his brother-in-law had one he was selling. He met with the gentleman and his brother-in-law, purchased the vehicle, and the title was signed over to him. However, when he went to DMV to have the title transferred to his name, he found out there was a Power of Attorney from the owner who had the trailer prior to the man my husband purchased it from. He has tried to no avail to get this resolved with the person who sold him the trailer but seems to be getting the run around. He has gone back to their home and left messages threatening legal action with no response. So now he has a trailer he cannot use. What recourse does he have?

Your husband has obviously been scammed. Of course, he could sue, but it's not too likely that this scammer will ever show up in court (in my opinion).

One more rip off, courtesy of the infamous Craig's list.
