Lies

Can I file a lawsuit against someone whom reported a lie to my director which in turn caused my dismissal from my previous job. No questions asked.

Defamation (whether written or oral)

is difficult to prove. You would need to prove that this reputedly slanderous lie or falsehood was in fact the proximate (legal) cause of your dismissal from your employment and therefore injurious to you in your business and/or profession.
