If a mechanic's negligence causes someone's brakes to fail and hit another car as he is backing out of the garage, is the mechanic liable for the damages?

Yes, the mechanic as well as his repair shop could be liable for damages, but the
owner of this vehicle would have to be able to prove the negligence by a preponderance of the
evidence if the matter were to end up in court.
