Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia
Payment for services / materials
I did extensive home improvement
work on daughter's boyfriend's
house. I installed hardwood floors to
the entire upstairs, painted 2 rooms
a hallway and a stairwell, refinished
stairs and replaced 2 windows.
Boyfriend bought some materials -
but not all and would always say ''let
me know what I owe you.''
Boyfriend broke up with daughter
once all the work was complete - and
now is claiming all work and
materials were a ''very nice gift.''
Can I bill for services as well as
materials? I believe his home value
has increased due to these home
improvements.

Re: Payment for services / materials
Yes, you could sue this recalcitrant obligor in small claims court for up to $5K for the value of "these home improvements" for which he allegedly orally promised to pay you for and now apparently refuses to follow through on his promise.
